This shot is also displayed on another of my websites: www.scottnewtonphoto.com/turtle That website is a collection of my photos that are on display, a different shot per room, at the W Hotel Austin. The images are mostly shots of musicians performing in or around Austin in the 70’s. Check it out. Eric Clapton played the Stevie Ray Vaughan Tribute at the KLRU studios in Austin in May of ’95, along with most of the great guitar players then alive….

Erin Ivey. Jan 11, 2010 Austin, TX
Erin Ivey is one of the musicians playing on “Dark River–Songs of the Civil War Era”. She does a great job with an old Irish Ballad. She’s really quite good. Where do these amazingly accomplished young singers come from? They seem to grow on trees around here. Must be in the water…
Eliza Gilkyson. April 5 2010. Near Austin, TX
The Album that generated the shoot this image came from has been released and can be purchased. “Dark River –Songs of the Civil War Era” is the name of the album. Austin musicians did the songs. I did the photos. Eliza Gilkyson is World Class. Her voice is powerful magic. Her songs are pure. She keeps getting better and better.
Gomez. Sept 19, 2011 Austin City Limits
Getting the informal award for best new (to me) rock band is Gomez. That’s all I know; what I see. I do know quality when I’m confronted with it. Yikes. If you don’t know, google them. If you do, I’m being redundant.
Raphael Saadiq. June 9, 2011 Austin City Limits
Every once in a while I get to photograph someone new to me; the surprise, this time, was wonderful. What a gifted performer…
Tony Bennett. April 27, 2011 ACL-Live
The eternal entertainer is as good as ever.
Buddy Guy. Sept 3, 2011 ACL-Live
I’m always looking for iconic shots. Images where you can clearly see the spirit that powers and motivates the corporal part, the body. Here he’s letting the Muse that channels through him pour forth, visibly. It clearly makes him happy. You can hear him with your eyes.
Emmylou Harris. June 21, 2011 ACL-Live
I’ve always loved Emmylou. Ever since the early 70’s, when she appeared singing with Gram Parsons, her crystal pure voice has sweetly pierced my awareness like no other. She’s looking pretty good these days, lots of energy, and the voice is as great as ever. Rock on, girl.
Dwight Yoakum. July 21, 2011 ACL-Live
Somebody long ago must have told Dwight Yoakum that he looked really bitchin’ when he posed, like this, while playing. Head down, guitar up. He does it all of the time. Great voice. Tight jeans. Uses hat to hide face.
Peter Frampton. Oct 18, 2011 @ACL-Live
There’s an eternally youthful aspect to Peter Frampton. Doesn’t matter that he’s shed his flowing locks (or did they shed him?)… Anyway, be that as it may…. He’s truly a young spirit. He’s got that part down.
