I’ve had a lot of great music to shoot lately. Here’s Coldplay, on the short list for Best Band in the World.

Okay, all of you dedicated ScottNewtonPhoto fans who haven’t had anything to chew on for quite awhile…I have something new… check out http://www.scottnewtonphoto.com/turtle This is a gallery of my shots in the W Hotel Austin’s rooms. There are about 300 of them, displayed room by room. Most are music related shots I took in the 70’s and 80’s. Hope you enjoy…
Widespread Panic, June 15 2011, ACL_Live, Austin TX
Here’s a wide shot of my/our new home–ACL Live @ the Moody Theater, Austin TX. Starting with this season (season 37), all Austin City Limits (The PBS TV show) tapings will emanate from this room. When tapings aren’t happening the room is booked by ACL_Live, a separate entity which puts on shows like the one pictured here. I can’t remember being in a better venue to watch, and shoot, musical performance. More later…
Barack Obama May 10, 2011 @ ACL_Live, Austin, Texas
It’s been a long while since I’ve posted; a lot has happened and there is a lot to show and talk about… Let’s start with the President. I’m really impressed. He’s a great man, up close and personal… And he’s a great champion for a more cohesive, coherent world. I’m a fan. This is a pretty good portrait. This is the first of what I hope will be many images shot at The Moody Theater at ACL_Live, the new home of Austin City Limits, and also a separate entity called ACL_Live. I’ll be shooting for both. The upshot is that I’ll get to shoot many events and shows there and hope to post many images such as this…
Patti Smith, 1978, Austin Opera House
Ok, after neglecting this site since last March I have quite a few images to share. I’ve been working on several projects, including providing all of the room art in the new Austin W Hotel, all images shot in and around Austin in the 70’s and early 80’s, separate from Austin City Limits. So, I had to dig and scan for months, turning up treasures like this one. I only saw Patti Smith perform once. She made a huge impression on me. It’s an honor sharing the planet with certain people. For me there are certain people, larger and deeper than life, who serve as pole stars of excellence. She’s one of them. Neil Young is another. Jim James is a young one who works for me, as does Jeff Tweedy… John Lennon was. These people, and the spirits who speak through them, inspire me every day.
Brad Paisley @ ACL Dec 9, 2007
I just turned in the finished proof prints and corresponding finished tifs to the printer for my upcoming book: “Austin City LImits: 35 Years in Photographs”. In October you’ll be able to buy it. Publisher: UT Press. This shot, and many others, is in it.
Dave Matthews Band, Austin City Limits; August 10, 2009
I’ve been working on a book:” Austin City LImits, 35 Years in Photographs” to be published by UT Press. It’ll be on the shelves October, 2010. This shot is in it. More on this later.
Jon D Graham, Texas Chili Parlor, Jan 8, 2010.
Cheers! Jon D is a treasure. He’s a distinctive singer and songwriter, one of Austin’s best.. I’m working on a series of portraits of Austin musicians. My friend, Chuck Pinnell, is producing an album of mostly local artists singing very old standards from the 1800s. Jon’s song is “Rye Whiskey”. Most of the portraits loosely illustrate something about the song each artist performs, and something about the artist, too. … And, for that matter, something about the photographer.
Portrait of me, playing Catch with Hawk and Orion. Near Oatmeal, Texas. 11/27/09
I haven’t posted a self-portrait in a while; actually it’s a nice portrait shot by Beth Gentry, my son Hawk’s very good friend… This is what I look like these days, folks. Still flinging the ol’ hardball.
Kambria dips her toe in the gray water. 11/27/09.
Meet my youngest granddaughter, Kambria Z. Newton, age 3 now (see # 169 of her birth). She’s already pushing the limits, playing in the forbidden “yucky water”… This reminds me of the most basic myth; the story of Eve. I can see how it happens.
